The Ringwraiths, also known as the Nazgûl, are terrifying figures from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium.
These beings were once mortal men, primarily kings and sorcerers, who were corrupted and enslaved by Sauron through the Rings of Power he gifted to them. The allure of power and immortality proved too strong, and they gradually faded into wraiths, becoming extensions of Sauron's will.
They are clad in black robes and are almost always mounted on fearsome steeds or winged beasts. Their faces are unseen, hidden beneath their hoods, contributing to their aura of dread. Their primary purpose is to hunt down the One Ring for Sauron.
The Ringwraiths first appear in *The Fellowship of the Ring* as black riders relentlessly pursuing Frodo Baggins and his companions.
